Theme - Rich vs Poor
Page 107 - "Kidnapped rich kids are a definite commodity. That's because people in my world need currency. People in your world don't. They need other things - like rich, dark tans or sparkling white teeth. "
This quote perfectly exemplifies the theme Rich vs Poor. Dessi is sharing his feelings on how rich people have different problems in life. While the rich are worrying about how good they look with their dark, sun-kissed bodies and white teeth, the poor are worrying about where the next meal is going to come from. Also Dessi talks about how being born into poverty you have to work so hard just to have a chance to make a living; where being born into a wealthy family you are just given a great, luxurious lifestyle.
Page 159 - " You are rich and white. You have unlimited opportunities. I am poor and black, I have to chase after one of the opportunities set aside for the poor and black."
Albert is talking to Charity explaining as to why he would think of kidnapping her. He has to crate an opportunity to make money through ransom. This quote is a great example of the theme Rich vs. Poor. It touches on the fact of chances. Where, again, being born into poverty you have barely a chance to make a living; where being born into a wealthy family you are just given a chance without really working for it or proving your worth.

Theme - Live Life to the fullest
Page 211 - "But after i married Mickie, I found myself trapped in a life i could not stand. I got up every day and played a role that was not me."
This quote demonstrates the theme of living life to the fullest. Charity's dad realized that the life he was living was the one he had wanted. Because of that, he devised a way to change that, and that was to kidnap his daughter and fake his death so they could start a new life. He could no longer stand living the way he was. He was getting further and further from his daughter and started seeing himself go down the wrong path. So he chose to live life to the fullest and change that.
Page 236 - "Victoria's words came into my head: "You need to live life, Miss. You need to have adventures."
This quote shows the theme of living life to the fullest. Edward Bloor clearly wants to get the message across that one of the themes in the book Taken. Charity is starting basically a new life with her father and she reminds herself of the words that Victoria tells her and takes advantage of it. Part of living life to the fullest is having fun and you can't have a whole lot of fun if you don't take risks or have adventures.
